This work starts out discussing infantry tactics as they were at the beginning of the 18th century and in the War of the Spanish Succession. It then evolves into a discussion of the Prussian system and how it was viewed by various French military authors as they discussed how they should be executed and how they then evolved through the 18th century in the French army. The various theorists and their thoughts are discussed from the beginning of the century to the development of the French Regulation of 1791, which was used during the Napoleonic wars.
