This is the second of a two volume work.  Sir John Hawkwood was one of the most significant of the Italian Condottiere, even though he was an Englishman.  This is a very rare book, only some 500 copies ever being published.  It discusses his battles, his politics, and devotes a great deal of time to discussing the life style of the 14th century.

Hawkwood became the commander of the White Company (Italian: Compagnia Bianca del Falco) a 14th-century English mercenary company.  It was led from its arrival in Italy in 1361 to 1363 by the German Albert Sterz and later by the Sir John Hawkwood. Although the White Company is the name by which it is popularly known, it was initially called the Great Company of English and Germans, but was later often be referred to as the English Company.
