It was prepared using period Roman sources and covers from Spartacus’ enslavement, his training as a gladiator, his escape and the beginning of his guerilla war against the Roman slave owners. It then proceeds through the three years of his wars, describing in limited details the various battles, his struggles with keeping the slave army under control, the Greek and Gaulish factions, and the climactic battle. It is fairly close to the movie in which Kirk Douglas starred, but the ending is quite different and there are other differences.
