Originally published in 1916, the author of this work was a medical doctor assigned by the French Government to assist in fighting an outbreak of typhus in Serbia. This is an account of his adventures while working at a medical station in Serbia, treating mostly civilians, discussions of some of the nearby military actions, and his horrible experiences while retreating over the mountains in a country where roads barely existed, food was almost unobtainable, the cold unbearable, and the mountains steep.
