This work was originally published in 1732. The author was taken prisoner by the Turks just before the siege of Vienna in 1683 and as such served his Turkish master at the siege. It has illustrated chapters on cutting weapons, firearms and cannon, pyrotechnics, a discussion of how they prepared mines in siege warfare with illustrations, horse equipment, flags, standards & musical instruments, how the Turks set up their camps and illustrations of the various types of tents, how the camp was set up, and the flags flown over the tents, wagons and pack animals, a discussion of their types of food, how the Janissaries marched, discussions of campaigns and sieges with maps, illustrations of siege works, etc., forts on the Dardanelles, the Turkish navy (no illustrations of ships), and, finally, a very detailed analysis of the strength of the Turkish army.
