This is a history of a notable citizen of Massachusetts, Benjamin Church, who is asked to undertake the defense of the English settlers in Massachusetts and Rhode Island against an uprising of the Indians, under their Chief Philip.  The work is very, very detailed.  The accounts of the fights with the Indians are small, there being rarely as many as 100 settlers and usually 20-30, engaging Indian forces in the wilderness of Massachusetts.  Benjamin Church proved himself to be as heroic as any American and his adventures, as recounted in this work, are superior to those of Daniel Boone and Davy Crockett.  It is a wonderful bit of long forgotten American history.
