The French army was returning from its 1860 campaign in China and, having nothing better to do, decided to conquer Cochin-China, otherwise known as Vietnam.  There had been issues earlier, a disastrous French operation against Hue and an ongoing siege of Saigon, but why waste an unemployed army?  A mixed force of French line infantry, naval landing parties, naval infantry, and Spanish, including Filipino auxiliary cavalry, set about to conquer a new colony.  A complete French order of battle, including all officers, is provided.
