First, the author. J. Colin was an incredibly prolific author. He had unrestricted access to the French archives and in the pre-WWI period wrote numerous works on French military history. He was particularly prolific on Napoleonic subjects, but did work on other areas and this is one of them.
This volume discusses the build up to the battle of Fontenoy and contains a detailed discussion of the battle based on correspondence and reports from the witnesses to the battle. It refutes several points that Voltaire made in his account of the battle. It is a continuation of the previous volume and concludes the study.
