First, the author. J. Colin was an incredibly prolific author. He had unrestricted access to the French archives and in the pre-WWI period wrote numerous works on French military history. He was particularly prolific on Napoleonic subjects, but did work on other areas and this is one of them.
This volume discusses the organization of the armies, the Ardennes frontier, and the beginning of the Flanders campaign. It contains many letters between the generals, discussions of logistical issues, how the campaign plans began to change and how they drove the campaign, and all actions, large and small. It is a continuation of the previous volume.
