As the war of the Spanish Succession ground on in Italy, the French moved to take the city of Turin.  They massed a large army with a large siege train and sent it to do the task.  However, there was much dispute as to how this massive fortress was to be assaulted and, court politics prevailing, the plan of attack developed by Vauban in favor of those of the Duke de la Feuillade.  This is a journal of the operations that leads up to the appearance of a relief army headed by Prince Eugene.  The French collapsed, abandoned the siege, and withdrew to the west abandoning most of occupied Italy to the Austrians.
