The author was a reporter for the French newspaper Journal and was sent into Serbia when the Serbians began mobilizing for this war. He was on the front lines and witnessed this obscure war first hand. He provides was welcomed into the Serbian ranks and, at one point, his presence was concealed from the Bulgarians, whose commanding general had forbidden the presence of foreign journalists. He was present at and reports ont he battles of Koumanovo and Prilep and the siege of Andrianople.
