Pierre d’Aligny joined the King’s Musketeers at age 14 and rose through the ranks to become a brigadier general by the end of his military career. This is his autobiography and covers his experience in all the wars from 1641 to 1697 from the perspective of a soldier and an officer.  It provides a most interesting insight into what life was like and how the system of being an officer worked under Louis XIV.
