Algeria was never stable under French rule and there were constantly uprisings. In 1857 the French sent a corps to crush the resistance of the Kabyles, who lived in a mountainous region of central Algeria. This work provides a complete history of the campaign with fairly detailed accounts of the battles and some “stories” about individual situations. In addition, it provides a great deal of attention on the use and effectiveness of French artillery in colonial operations.
