This is the memoir of a French Imperial Guard Marine, who was taken prisoner in Spain and suffered through the prison hulks and on an island where the Spanish dumped him and his fellow prisoners. It discusses his escape and return to French and they joined the Grande Armee to invade Russia. It then goes through his adventures as he escapes capture by the Russians and suffers through the terrible retreat as a fugitive alone or with a few fellows.
